Question by hailahil: How to get rid of annoying “friend” (10 points – read details)?
First of all, I live in Europe, so I apologise for not so good English.

There is one guy from my ex-high school (I’m 19 and in college now, he’s 17 and still in the high school) who annoys me to the n-th degree:
- we started hanging out together around 10 months ago because we seemed to have some things in common, although I now realise that we have almost nothing in common
- he calls me to come to his house every 2 weeks or so (not so often, but continue reading)
- when I come to him, he always wants me to stay and sleep in his house and when I say I can’t/don’t want, he repeatedly continues to urge that I should stay
- he is also very arrogant considering his physical strength and always talks me about his “accomplishments”, despite I am stronger than him and also completely uninterested in his physique
- he always want to listen to music on my mobile phone, and if I refuse to give it to him, he continues to be boring for hours
- he seems to interrogate me in a police manner (not just politely asking) considering some very minor things (like: “why do you have this song on the mobile phone?”, “where have you been last week?”, “why didn’t you came earlier?”, “why do you do [insert thing you want]?”, “why do you go to this college?”, etc.)
- he hates muslims and some of my best friends are muslims, although he doesn’t speak versus them when I told him
- he is a hard-line xenophobic nationalist and religious fundamentalist (catholic) in a negative manner
- as I am also devoted catholic and as I love my homeland, he also thinks that we are like-minded, but he somehow can’t understand that I respect other religions (and non-religious people) and other nationalities/ethnicities/races and that some of my best friends are of the other nationalities and religions
- can’t seem to understand that I have other friends beside him
- we don’t have a single thing in common (we like different music, movies, he likes PC games, I don’t like them, etc.)
- when I come to him, his two brothers (13 and 15 years old) are always there and i just can’t stand the younger one, as he doesn’t respect me even a bit

The biggest problem is that our parents know each other, so I can’t just say him to f*** off. I need to break our relationship in a polite manner, and not to make him an enemy. I also can’t start any kind of verbal fight, since he would try to answer me physically and I can’t do anything to him as his father is a high-ranked police officer. He also wouldn’t understand if I tell him everything in a face, so I need a more subtle way of breaking our friendship.

Nah, there really isn’t a ‘polite’ way to do it, since he’s kinda crossed that line many times already.

He’s one of these guys that you can’t give ANYTHING to, or he’ll take it and run with it. If you hang out with him, he’ll think you’re dating. If he calls you and you talk to him, he’ll think you like him.

So, basically, just don’t give him anything to work with. Just ignore him. Completely. Do not talk to him. Do not even look at him. Don’t even tell him that you dislike him, because he’ll take that and run with it, too.

Eventually, he’ll get tired of it and focus on another girl. Yeah, it’s gonna suck to try and ignore him, since he’s probably the most annoying person in the world, but you’ve got to remain calm at all times and just give him NOTHING. That’s all I can say.
